In May I had the great pleasure of attending a workshop held by Mike Colon. Now, I have to be completely honest and say that a year ago I had never even heard the name Mike Colon. Now I realize that I must have been living under a rock! Mike Colon is to wedding photography as Michael Jordan is to basketball...seriously. The guy has photographed the weddings of celebrities like Usher and Timbaland. He is the real deal!
After another photographer sang the praises of Mike, his work, his philosophy and his workshops, I decided I needed to see what all of the fuss was about. So off to Atlanta I went for a special two day workshop that was absolutely amazing. Mike is a really down-to-earth, genuine person (when he could be a total diva) and the information we learned was spot-on. We got a ton of technical advice, learned all about building our businesses and were able to participate in two incredible shoots. The best part of the experience was meeting the other photographers. The folks in this industry are so great!
Below are a few shots of Mike in action. Tomorrow I'll post about Joy Thigpen and the gorgeous wedding shoot she styled for the Atlanta workshop...so stay tuned!

STYLED WEDDING - ATLANTA
These pictures are from the fantastic workshop that Mike Colon held in Atlanta back in May. I had posted a few of them previously but took them down until they were featured on the Southern Weddings Magazine blog!
So, now they are back for you to enjoy :) Tomorrow I will go into detail about how fantastic the workshop was and the incredible job that was done by all involved in this particular shoot. Susanna and Kenny are one good looking couple, and they were so pleasant to work with, even in spite of the sweltering Southern heat!

MIND READING
My husband is a man of many talents. Unfortunately, mind reading isn't one of them. He is also completely unfazed by birthdays and other like milestones of life. They come, they go...why make a big deal out of them? So, when my birthday rolled around last week I tried to be as practical about it as I possibly could.
When asked what I wanted for a gift, I said that there was absolutely nothing I needed and I couldn't really think of anything I wanted. Thinking he understood, Moise said, "Ok, so it's not really a big deal then?" This is where mind reading skills would be particularly handy. It was completely true that I needed nothing, and wanted little...but I was hoping for a little recognition on my birthday! Having learned my lesson from birthdays past, I simply took his head in my hands and replied, "No, it is a big deal!" I know it sounds silly, but while I can take or leave the gifts, I do want to know I'm being thought of on my bday :)
Later that day, when I got a call about a floral delivery, I was sure it was from my mother, or some other intuitive lady in my life. Much to my surprise, the card attached to the beautiful bouquet that arrived had a really lovely message...from my hubby!
Thanks, dear. Ya done good.

WEDDING - KATE & CHRIS
Last week I got to shoot with the wonderful Beth Morgan. Not only is she a fab photographer, she has also got an incredible eye for style. She did a ton of work to style the outdoor photos for Kate and Chris and it turned out to be so much fun! Kate and Chris have also got great style and did so many of the wonderful details of their wedding themselves. It was a beautiful day for a really special couple :)

Kate's dad surprised her with a beautiful necklace!

Their first look. Such a perfect spot!

Kate and Chris exchanged gifts. She gave him a painting...

...and he MADE her a gorgeous chest, made from wood he collected after Hurricane Katrina.
